  12. 功能與美感：卡內基圖書館 • 1890-1910是美國圖書館建築的全盛時期，共建了2,000所圖書館（public, college, and university）；其中1,800所是Andrew Carnegie（1835-1919）所捐建 • Carnegie在美國和加拿大等英語系國家共捐款建了2,509所圖書館California's 142 public and two academic Carnegie libraries • 剛開始的設計無法滿足圖書館的功能，於是顧問Richard Bertam研擬圖書館設計準則 • 強調空間的經濟（economy of space） • 最不喜歡入口的空間浪費 • 一樓、長方形，以書架區隔，自然採光，未來擴充 • 專書與網站http://www.carnegie-libraries.org/http://andrewcarnegie.tripod.com/ 1902, California's first Carnegie library opened in San Diego
