  7. 2005-06 Paper FAFSA • FAFSA will be “Green” • Completed 60-day comment period (May 11) • Design Group met last week • Minimal changes for 2005-06 • Deferred collecting spouse’s information

  8. Changes to FAFSA Application • Improved format for Veterans’ benefit questions. • Added instructions for reporting Social Security Benefits • Added definition “net worth” next to answer fields • May add PIN Security language to certification Statement

  9. Data Elements/Future Consideration • Enrollment status – researching; may revise format in 2006-07 • State Agencies requested: • Course of Study • Expected Date of Graduation • Differentiate high school diploma from GED • Could supplemental form be eliminated

  10. FAFSA Schedule • Second 30-day comment period – early June • Expect OMB final clearance mid-to late July • Print run: 28 million English and 1 million Spanish • Changes to State Deadlines? • Must have by August 1

  11. Re-Designed FAFSA Homepage • Removed some text that was repeated in various spots to make the Homepage easier to read. • Added more information about the parents apply for the PIN. • Changed the name of Student Access to “View and Print your Student Aid Report”

FAFSA on the Web Changes • Updating all help text • Revising the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s) • Adding information to help students and parents identify Department of Education Emails from Spam Mail. • If applicant answers “Will File” for tax filing status questions we will display a message if this question is answered after April 15th.

FAFSA on the Web changes (Conti) • Changed the name of the icon “Chat” to “Live Help Chat” • Made all worksheets available in a PDF format for easy printing. • Providing the “Application Print Report” in a PDF version along with the HTML version for printing. • Adding a new message after the user session has been idle for 25 minutes that indicates the current time and the time the session will expire.

FAFSA on the Web changes (Conti) • New skip logic added: • If applicant answer to question 19 is “Yes: (student became legal resident of his/her state before 1/1/2000), the applicant will skip question 20 (give month and date questions) • If “Type of return filed” is 1040A, 1040EZ or 1040 Telefile, we will pre-populate “Yes” into “Eligible to file 1040A or 1040EZ” Question.

  16. Spanish FAFSA on the Web • Additional Spanish Options available • increased index pages available in Spanish • Renewal Application will be available in Spanish • E-mail provided in Spanish to applicants. • Improved Spanish help text and frequently asked questions

FAFSA on the Web Changes for Parents • 1st 5 digits of the parents SSN (when there is a match with SSA) will be display by X’s in all applications within FAFSA on the Web (ROTW, COTW, Student Access and eSAR) Ex: XXX-XX-123 • Ability for Parents of several students to carry forward their information.

  18. PIN Apply within FAFSA Application • New feature added to allow student’s and parent’s to apply for a PIN during the application process.

  19. PIN Apply within FAFSA Application • Student will receive a confirmation page back immediately with instructions on when they will receive the PIN Email. If the student/Parent already have a PIN on file we will return a message that “we have a PIN on record for you and give directions on how to obtain a duplicate”.

  20. PIN Apply within FAFSA Application for Parents • Parent PIN Apply questions within FAFSA Application. • We will send back a message if we have a PIN for the parent on file. • There is a separate question for each parent to receive a PIN.

  21. PIN Apply for Parent within FAFSA Application • When either or both of the apply for PIN boxes are checked this is the page the parent/student will see to provide the registration information for the PIN to be emailed.

  22. Changes to School Code Search • Added the ability to sort the list of schools presented back in the search by: • Ascending order by school name • Ascending order by school code • Ascending order by city

  23. PIN Site Changes • We are enhancing the “PIN” and “Pin Site” by: • Addition of a Challenge Phrase for Security. • Disabling PINs after 3 unsuccessful authentication attempts. User must provide their Challenge Phrase Answer in order to reactive the PIN. • Disabling PINs that are not used within a 30 month period. • Addition on the PIN Application page of the “Active Agreement” text field

  24. PIN Site Changes • Addition of an audit trail for all PIN activity • All current PIN holders will have to provide a Pass Phrase 1 time when they use their PIN to authenticate so we can add to the PIN Dbase for Security.
