  1. 5 Upgrades to Make Your Classic Car Safer Everyone loves classic vehicles. They are a cool time machine that has stories and character that new cars simply don’t. However for all the charm they possess, classic vehicles simply aren’t as safe as modern models. Here are 5 upgrades you need to consider adding or looking into before getting behind the wheel of one of those nostalgic beauties. •Safety belts: Seat belts were first invented in 1885 but did not become standard equipment in cars until 1967. Modern materials and design innovations have made modern seat belts more functional and durable than anything that you are likely to see in a vintage car prior to 1967. For that reason, you should consider upgrading this life- saving device in your vintage vehicle. You can buy lap-shoulder belts that fit older cars. If you’re handy, you can install them yourself. But because belts are a key safety feature, at least consider professional installation. •Brakes: The other critical piece of equipment your car has that can save your life in the event of an accident are its brakes. Of course, cars have had brakes since they were first invented. However, vintage vehicles do not have anti-lock brakes. Anti-lock brakes allow drivers to keep steering control while slamming on the brakes, and prevent skids when panic-braking on slick surfaces. •New headlights: Classic cars tend to use old sealed-beam headlight bulbs. While they can give adequate visibility in many circumstances, they aren’t as bright as modern halogens, making it more difficult to see and safely navigate. •Backup cameras: This one might make purists bristle but backup cameras have become standard safety equipment in modern vehicles and for good reason. A 2010 government report said that 210 people die every year and 15,000 are injured in backup accidents. Consider adding this safety feature to your vintage car. •Power windows: How do power windows make you safer? With power windows you do not have to roll up your windows manually while you are in motion. This is one less distraction. Classic cars have so much more going for them than modern cars do. But if you want to use one daily it’s a good idea to upgrade your safety features to make sure that it will keep you safe. We can help you with our power window kit and our specialty power windows. They are easy to install and will let you keep all the charm and pizzazz of your vintage car.
