Review of Document Status (cont) • Requirements for full Internet Standard (re: RFC 2026, para 4.1.3.) (emphasis added) A specification for which significant implementation and successful operational experience has been obtained may be elevated to the Internet Standard level. An Internet Standard (which may simply be referred to as a Standard) is characterized by a high degree of technical maturity and by a generally held belief that the specified protocol or service provides significant benefit to the Internet community.
Review of Document Status (cont) • Significant Implementation Experience • Yes • Significant Operational Experience • Not that’s been reported • Technical Maturity • Yes • Provides Significant Benefit • Yes
Review of Document Status (cont) • Updates to RFCs 1905/1906/1907 • Specifications COMPLETE - FINISHED • Limited Operational Experience Reported • RFCs 2571/2572/2573/2574/2575 • A few editorial fixes needed • Very Limited Operational Experience
Review of Document Status (cont) • 1905/1906/1907 Options (as I see them) • Forward to IESG requesting advancement to full Standard when WG sends deployment reports • WG waits to forward to IESG until we believe we have enough operational experience documented in deployment reports
Review of Document Status (cont) • 2571 thru 2575 Options (as I see them) • Issue WG Last Call now & finalize documents • Follow same approach with finalized documents that is used for 1905/6/7 Updates • Leave documents ‘as is’ until more deployment reports document operational experience
