Creating a Parent Portal and Assigning Parents to each Child
Go to Tabs and Modules on the System Admin panel. Choose Tabs. Choose Create Tab then Create Module Tab. Name it “Classes Parent View” or something that you can identify is for parents.
Assign the “Availability” and “Membership”. Make available, select Parent as the Role.Make Classes Parent View the Membership. Hit Submit
You must choose “My Classes” and “Parent Gateway”. You may add others if you wish. Click submit.
Next edit the Default Layout. Make it look the way you want it to look. Now go to Tabs on the System Admin panel and “Create a Top Frame Tab”
Give it the title you want the parents to find on the top of your Blackboard. It should be different from the normal classes tab. Ours is “Student Classes”. Make available Choose “Parent” as the role and “Classes Parent View as the membership. Click Submit.
Now it is time to enroll your parents. On the system admin panel choose “Users” Create User.Give the parent a username and a password. You must put the Institution Role and System Role as Parent. It will not work any other way.
Assign the child to their parent. Go to Users on System Admin panel and choose a student. Click the arrow on the right and scroll down and select Parent Associations.
Click Add Parent Associations Click Browse and add the parent of the child. Click submit.
This is what it looks like to a parent when they log in. The glasses indicate the person is an observer. The Parent Gateway Module will show each of their children and when they click on a child, it will show the classes the child is enrolled in the “My Classes Module”.
Impersonate The Impersonate Building Block allows System Administrators to access Blackboard as a particular UserID without knowing or resetting that User’s passwordIt is accessible from the System Admin Tab and therefore ONLY available to System Admins
