Order Mantodea • The mantid group is easily recognizable • The body is fairly elongate and slender • Long slender mid and hind legs • ‘raptorial’ forelegs • Long pronotum • Triangular head, large eyes • Voracious ambush predator • Considered very beneficial, prey on pest species • Simple metamorphosis

Order Isoptera: Termites • What does ‘Iso’ mean? • Usually pale white, light brown • Winged forms may be nearly black or aurburn • Wings are all same size (unlike ants) • Have a variety of castes • Simple metamorphosis • Many beneficial species degrade wood and other scraps • Some eat wood used in construction
