Limitations • Incompleteness of the data • To be rectified before the end of the year • Information systems of authoritative sources not structured to report on some of sector-wide indicators • Started discussions on this issue • Urgently need a system for harvesting data from the district level and from authoritative sources • Weak capacity of M&E unit of MOH Ministry of Health and Partners Summit, Miklin, 13 - 17 Dec 2004

Pro-poor Service and Resource Allocation • Strategic • Reviewed health sector pro-poor agenda • Established Poverty and Health working group to develop the health sector response to GPRS • Service Delivery • CHPS implementation continued • Technical review included a review of the neglected diseases that exclusively affect the poor • Developed TOR for ACSD evaluation Ministry of Health and Partners Summit, Miklin, 13 - 17 Dec 2004

Pro-poor Service and Resource Allocation • Financing • Pro-poor resource allocation criteria applied to 2004 budget • Cabinet approved health sector proposals under HIPC • Targeting • System for identifying the poor under NHIS defined and included in the draft Legislative Instrument • Proposal for implementing deprived area incentive developed and implemented • Maternal exemption implemented in 4 deprived regions and proposal for extending it nationwide developed Ministry of Health and Partners Summit, Miklin, 13 - 17 Dec 2004

Scaling up • Malaria • New antimalaria drug policy developed • Multiple approaches to ITN distribution, yet • 3.5% of <5 and 2.7% pregnant women using ITNs • IPT implemented in 20 districts • 20% pregnant women in these districts on IPT Ministry of Health and Partners Summit, Miklin, 13 - 17 Dec 2004

  13. Scaling Up • Child Health Services • Celebrated Child health week • Incorporated IMCI into training curriculum • Slow implementation of IMCI in districts • 50/110(138) districts have at least one worker trained in IMCI Ministry of Health and Partners Summit, Miklin, 13 - 17 Dec 2004
