Visual Communication Definition • Visual communication is the communication of ideas through the visual display of information. • The conveyance of ideas and information in forms that can be read or looked upon. • Primarily associated with two dimensional images, it includes: • art, signs, photography, typography, drawing fundamentals, graphic design, illustration, colour and electronic resources. • The idea that a visual message accompanying text has a greater power to inform, educate, or persuade a person or audience.

Visual Communication A GOOD Visual Communication Design • Based on measuring comprehension by the audience, not on personal aesthetic and/or artistic preference as there are no universally agreed-upon principles of beauty and ugliness. Other ways to express information visually - gestures and body language, animation (digital or analogue), and film. • Visual communication by e-mail, a textual medium, is commonly expressed with ASCII art, emoticons and embedded digital images. 

  5. Visual Communication The EYE of HORUS • often referred to as the symbol of visual communication • The Eye of Horus is an ancient Egyptian symbol of protection, royal power and good health. • It is also known as ''The Eye of Ra''

  6. Type of visual communication There are 4 type of visual comunication • ILLUSTRATION THAT INFORM • ILLUSTRATION THAT EDUCATE • ILLUSTRATION THAT PERSUADE. • ILLUSTRATION THAT ENTERTAIN.

Type of visual communication • ILLUSTRATION THAT INFORM. • A photo that informs tells you something about the subject. • For example a photo of a police officer on the side of a building might tell you that the building is a police station. • ILLUSTRATION THAT EDUCATE. • This is a photo that will help the viewer understand something better. • For example a photo of historical figure at an important time in history might educate the viewer.

Type of visual communication • ILLUSTRATION THAT PERSUADE. • These are photos that make you want to buy something or believe something. • For example a photo of a woman wearing make-up and wants women everywhere to buy that makeup. A photo of a car with a beautiful woman next to it may have as it objective to persuade men to buy the car. • ILLUSTRATION THAT ENTERTAIN. • These photos are entertaining. They may show funny things in funny situations or celebrities having fun.

Advantages and Disadvantages • Advantages • Fast • Can be directed to receiver • Convey current information • Can contain multiple pieces of information • Immediacy - Visual Communication can bring a thing, location and even and idea to life in dynamic ways. • Simplicity - Visual communication can also demonstrate the relationship between two entities or ideas in accessible ways. • Flexibility - Visual communication not only bridges geographic distances, it can span cultural references.

Advantages and Disadvantages • Disadvantages • Can be conspicuous • Signaller must be present at time of communication • Doesn’t work in dark, unless light is generated • Signals don’t travel around solid objects • Subject to bluffing • May be hard to describe certain or complicate concept. • May require lots of image in order to communicate correctly. • Require lots of time and not convenient. • Different people may respond differently to the visual communication. (depend on the person point of view)
