  4. Hours Monday – Thursday: 8:00am – 8 :00pm Friday: 8:00am – 4:00pm Book drop always open

  5. Library Card • Free for students and community patrons • No charge to replace • Please tell staff if your name, address or phone number changes Haywood County residents are allowed to use our library.

  6. General Collection Books • Located on the second floor • Checkout for three-weeks • Can be renewed • Overdue charge $.10 per day • Currently classified by the Library of Congress System

  8. Reference Books • Include encyclopedias, almanacs and dictionaries • Located on second floor • Library use only

Magazines & Journals • List of all periodicals that we have are located throughout the library in binders • Current year’s periodicals are along the wall across from the information desk • Prior year’s periodicals are stored on the tall bookcases by the wall and in the short bookcases in center of main floor of the library

  10. Magazines &Journals • May be checked out for 24 hours • May be renewed • Overdue charge $.10 per day • Ask if you need assistance finding magazines or journals

  11. Overdue Fines • Does not include weekends, holidays, semester breaks • Calculates only for the days we are open

  12. Copies • All computers connected to laser printer • You can print from internet or a disk • Computer printing can be picked up at the information desk • $.10 per page (black&white) • $.50 per page (color) Ask for help to choose printer Copier • $.10 per page (black & white) • Let us know if you need assistance • Color copier available in print shop

  13. Fax Machine is available the number is 828-627-4553 • Located behind information desk • $.10 a page to send or receive a fax • Ask staff for assistance

  14. Laminating Machine is available • $ .25 per foot for film • This machine needs to preheat • Allow about 2 hours for processing

  15. Flatbed Scanners • Directions for scanning text and photographs are located on computer • Save to a disk for free • Print in color ($.50) Ask for assistance

  16. CD Burner • If you need to copy a cd we have cd’s available for $1.00

  17. Reserve Books • At the request of an instructor • Located behind the Information Desk • Library use only

  18. Newspapers • Include: Asheville Citizen Times USA Today Enterprise Mountaineer Library use only • Located on the table between the clock and the periodical display shelf

  19. HCC Library Catalog • Double click icon on any computer • Type text you are looking for • Select Enter • This will search HCC library only. If you do not find what you are looking for: Go back Select All Libraries instead of Haywood • If you find materials get an Interlibrary Loan Request form at the student help station. • Complete and return to the desk

  20. Interlibrary Loan Request • Takes 5 - 10 days to receive • Can be checked out for 3 weeks • Can not always renew We can request materials from 58 community colleges located in North Carolina, as well as many other colleges and public libraries in the southeast

NCLIVE • Gateway to electronic resources of libraries in the state. • Currently accesses complete articles from over 5,5000 newspapers, journals and magazines + 2 encyclopedias. • Indexes over 10,000 periodical titles. • Also a source for information ranging from statistical data to information about authors.

  22. NCLIVE • Double Click on Icon • Choose EZ Search Type subject in text well Choose data base that best matches your search Choose Full Text to refine search if too many articles appear Choose refine search again to choose peer reviewed articles

  23. NCLIVE From Home • Go to WWW.haywood.edu , Library , Distance Education, NCLive • Choose Haywood Community College as your library • Type in password (changes twice a year) • Questions –contact the LRC

  25. Microsoft Word • The Microsoft Work Icon will be located in the Start Menu or as an icon on the desktop • Save files to a thumb drive or your network drive.

  26. Reference information • Ask at Information Desk for instructions on APA and MLA styles for citing books, periodicals and other information on research papers.
