Goals • The goal of the Image Sharing Demonstration is to educate radiologists regarding the power of two IHE profiles: • Cross-enterprise Document Sharing for Imaging (XDS-I) creates networks of care sites capable of sharing images and related information for clinical care. • Teaching File and Clinical Trial Export (TCE) allows easy export of images and related information to a clinical trials management or teaching file authoring system, thus linking the clinical environment to education and research. • Radiologists need to request IHE XDS-I and TCE by name to their CIO/staff and to vendors in RFPs. They should encourage their institutions to participate in emerging image-sharing networks.
Key Messages Key selling points for radiologists: XDS/XDS-I: • Immediate access to prior images and reports • Reduce duplicate/unnecessary exams • Method to identify patients across facilities • Access to patient information between non-affiliated facilities TCE: • Easy teaching file authoring • Simplify clinical trial submission IHE is poised to play an important role in the coming implementation of a nationwide health information network.
