SEEKING THE THINGS OF GOD 4 A God Worth Seeking
The God who made the world and everything in it, being Lord of heaven and earth, does not live in temples made by man, nor is he served by human hands, as though he needed anything, since he himself gives to all mankind life and breath and everything. And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, (Acts 17:24-27 ESV)
No other book like this book! • Historical accuracy • Geographical proof • Archeological evidence • Agreement by secular writers • Miracles corroborated by witnesses • Definitive prophecies • The resurrection
All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, (2 Timothy 3:16)
For we did not follow cleverly devised myths …, but we were eyewitnesses of his majesty. For when …the voice was borne to him by the Majestic Glory, “This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased,” we ourselves heard this very voice borne from heaven, for we were with him on the holy mountain. …, knowing this first of all, that no prophecy of Scripture comes from someone's own interpretation. For no prophecy was ever produced by the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit. (2 Peter 1:16-21 ESV)
For I would have you know, brothers, that the gospel that was preached by me is not man's gospel. For I did not receive it from any man, nor was I taught it, but I received it through a revelation of Jesus Christ. (Galatians 1:11-12 ESV) THE BIBLE IS A PRODUCT OF GOD’S MIND, NOT A COLLECTION OF MEN’S WRITINGS
The God of the Bible Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the will of the Lord is. (Ephesians 5:17 ) • Is a God who communicates, in understandable words Now the Spirit expressly says that in later times some will depart from the faith by devoting themselves to deceitful spirits and teachings of demons, (1 Timothy 4:1)
The God of the Bible Thus says the LORD, the King of Israel and his Redeemer, the LORD of hosts: “I am the first and I am the last; besides me there is no god. Who is like me? Let him proclaim it. Let him declare and set it before me, since I appointed an ancient people. Let them declare what is to come, and what will happen. (Isaiah 44:6-7 ESV) • Is a God who communicates, in understandable words • Is a God like no other
The God of the Bible • Is a God who communicates, in understandable words • Is a God like no other • Is a God with a predetermined purpose This was according to the eternal purpose that he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord, (Ephesians 3:11 ESV)
“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven and do not return there but water the earth, making it bring forth and sprout, giving seed to the sower and bread to the eater, so shall my word be that goes out from my mouth; it shall not return to me empty, but it shall accomplish that which I purpose, and shall succeed in the thing for which I sent it. (Isaiah 55:10-11 ESV)
This is good, and it is pleasing in the sight of God our Savior, who desires all people to be saved and to come to the knowledge of the truth. (1 Timothy 2:3, ESV)
The God of the Bible Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets, but in these last days he has spoken to us by his Son, whom he appointed the heir of all things, through whom also he created the world. (Hebrews 1:1-2 ESV) • Is a God who communicates, in understandable words • Is a God like no other • Is a God with a predetermined purpose • Is a God that controls all realms
The God of the Bible He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For by him all things were created, in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or rulers or authorities—all things were created through him and for him… (Colossians 1:15-17 ESV) • Is a God who communicates, in understandable words • Is a God like no other • Is a God with a predetermined purpose • Is a God that controls all realms
Is this God worth seeking? • Not seeking a religion that involves God • Or searching out the gifts of God • Or looking for a congregation that belongs to Him • Or finding a group that uses His name • But drawing near to HIM
But, WHY seek Him? • Because He is part of us and we are part of Him for “‘In him we live and move and have our being’; as even some of your own poets have said, “‘For we are indeed his offspring.’ Being then God's offspring, we ought not to think that the divine being is like gold or silver or stone, an image formed by the art and imagination of man. (Acts 17:28-29 ESV)
But, WHY seek Him? • Because He is part of us and we are part of Him • Our destiny is to be with Him Besides this, we have had earthly fathers who disciplined us and we respected them. Shall we not much more be subject to the Father of spirits and live? (Hebrews 12:9 ESV)
But, WHY seek Him? • Because He is part of us and we are part of Him • Our destiny is to be with Him “Then he will say to those on his left, ‘Depart from me, you cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels. (Matthew 25:41 ESV)
But, WHY seek Him? • Because He is part of us and we are part of Him • Our destiny is to be with Him • This world is vain, helpless, and hopeless on its own Him we proclaim, warning everyone and teaching everyone with all wisdom, that we may present everyone mature in Christ. For this I toil, struggling with all his energy that he powerfully works within me. (Colossians 1:28-29 ESV)
But according to his promise we are waiting for new heavens and a new earth in which righteousness dwells. (2 Pet. 3:13 ESV) But, WHY seek Him? • Because He is part of us and we are part of Him • Our destiny is to be with Him • This world is vain, helpless, and hopeless on its own • This world is not supposed to be our dwelling place
Our citizenship is in heaven But our citizenship is in heaven, and from it we await a Savior, the Lord Jesus Christ, who will transform our lowly body to be like his glorious body, by the power that enables him even to subject all things to himself. (Philippians 3:20-21 ESV)
Our citizenship is in heaven “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal, but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. (Matthew 6:19-21 ESV)
God is the object of our existence And he said to them, “Take care, and be on your guard against all covetousness, for one's life does not consist in the abundance of his possessions.” (Luke 12:15 ESV)
God is the object of our existence And he made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined allotted periods and the boundaries of their dwelling place, that they should seek God, and perhaps feel their way toward him and find him. Yet he is actually not far from each one of us, (Acts 17:25-27 ESV) HE is worth our search
