III) New meal offering in Pentecost • Lev 23.16 Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the LORD new meat offering • New meal (meat/grain) offering • If this is the new meal offering then which was the old one? N • The details of this New meal offering are given in vs 17 • Lev 23.17Ye shall bring out of your habitations two wave loaves of two tenth deals: they shall be of fine flour; they shall be baken with leaven; they are the firstfruits unto the LORD shall bring out of your habitations two loaves wave baken leaven • 1) Two loaves of bread • 2) Two loaves from their habitation • 3) Two loaves with leaven in it • 4) Two loaves which are baked • 5) Two loaves to wave before God.

N • But actually, these two loaves are the Jews (Israelites) & the Gentiles, to whom God desired to unite them in the present dispensation of grace • Gentiles were considered as uncircumcised, dogs, aliens (Eph 2.11-13) • But now through the sacrifice and faith, God has made Jews and Gentiles one new man (Eph 2.14-15) • Eph 2 .14-15For he is our peace, who hath made both one, and hath broken down the middle wall of partition between us; 15Having abolished in his flesh the enmity, even the law of commandments contained in ordinances; for to make in himself of twain one new man, so making peace; • 1 Cor 12.13For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jewsor Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.
1) Two loaves of bread • 1b) Why there are two loaves only? N • i) Two is the number of witness(Deut 19.15, Mt 18.16) • It is God’s desire that, not only the Israelites but also the Gentiles should bear witness unto Him (Acts 1.8) • Whether Jews (Israelite) or Gentile, they both are God’s witnesses • Whether man or a woman, they both are God’s witnesses • ii) Two is the number of unity(Mk 10.7-8, Jn 10.30, Jn 17.20-21) • Are believers are one in the sight of God, irrespective of our Origin • God Himself has established this unity & not any man • There should be no prejudices among us based on language, culture, caste, complexion, education etc. (Eph 4.3).
Lev 23.17Ye shall bring out of your habitations two wave loaves… shall bring out of your habitations 2) Two loaves from their habitation • These were not special loaves but very ordinary, simple and common loaves which Israelites used daily in their homes • This teaches us that, in NT God has chosen simple and ordinary people like you and me (1 Cor 1.27-28, Mt 11.25b) • 1 Cor 1.27-28But God hath chosen the foolish things of the world to confound the wise; and God hath chosen the weak things of the world to confound the things which are mighty 28 And base things of the world, and things which are despised, hath God chosen, yea, and things which are not, to bring to nought things that are: • Mt 11.25…. thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes.
Lev 23.17Ye shall bring out of your habitations two wave loaves of two tenth deals: they shall be of fine flour; they shall be baken with leaven… with leaven 3) Two loaves with leaven • i) These are the loaves with leaven • God has instructed the Israelits to abstain from leaven in the old meal offering (Lev 2.11) • But on the feast of Pentecost, the loaves were baked with leaven. ??? • In Bible, leaven is a picture of evil and sin • No leaven in meal offering (Lev 2) is the picture of LJC in whom there is no sin, whereas the leaven present in new meal offering (Lev 23) is the picture of the believer (assembly) • It shows that we (assembly) are not totally free from leaven (1 Jn 1.8,10) • 1 Jn 1.8If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us • 1 Jn 1.10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.
Lev 23.17Ye shall bring out of your habitations two wave loaves of two tenth deals: they shall be of fine flour; they shall be baken with leaven… with leaven 3) Two loaves with leaven • i) These are the loaves with leaven • ii) Loaves with leaven shows that, in the dispensation of church ..we have leaven in us • There was leaven in early church & there is and there will be leaven till the rapture of the church • There was leaven of fraudulence • Jerusalem (Acts 5.4) • There was leaven of fornication • Corinth (1 Cor 5.1) • There was leaven of false doctrine • Ephesus, Galatia & Colossae • There was leaven of fight (dispute) • Philippi • And in the end time of church dispensation, we are living in the Laodicean church age, where the situation is even worst (Rev 3.17) • Every church has a smaller or bigger form of leaven in it. N.
Lev 23.17Ye shall bring out of your habitations two wave loaves of two tenth deals: they shall be of fine flour; they shall be baken with leaven… baken with leaven 4) Two loaves which are baked • i) These are the loaves that are baked • When leaven is added to the dough, it puffs up because leaven starts its action immediately. N • In this loaves of bread, leaven is present, but it cannot act anymore, b’cus leaven is seized • Similarly, we also have leaven (sin) in us, but it is not leaven in action but leaven which is seized • Two loaves which are baked, reminds us that, the old nature, old memories are still there in us, they are not deleted • Gal 5.24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts • Rom 6.1-2What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? 2God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein.
Lev 23.17Ye shall bring out of your habitations two wave loaves of two tenth deals: they shall be of fine flour; they shall be baken with leaven… wave 5) Two loaves to wave before God • In the feast of firstfruits, the priest shall wave the sheaf (Lev 23.11), but in Pentecost he shall wave two loaves • These two loaves have leaven in it, but where are they? • Even though we have sin (sin nature) in us, but still we are in the precious hands of our God (Jn 10.28) • John 10.28 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand • In the land of Egypt when Joseph met his brothers he kissed them, embraced them & wept with them. WHY? N • God will accept us not because who & how we are but because of whom we belong to • We belong to Him and we are in His hands.
IV) New Testament fulfillment of Pentecost • The feast of Pentecost speaks about the coming of Holy Spirit after Lord’s ascension • This feast reminds us of the fulfillment of Lord’s promise to send another helper(Jn 14.16) • This feast pointed to the gift of the Holy Spirit for both Jew and Gentile, who would be brought into the kingdom of God during the Church age • The main reason for the coming of the Holy Spirit was to form the church & to baptize believers into the fellowship of the one body (1 Cor 12. 13, Mt 3.11).
Triune God honored these feasts 1) The feast of Passover • God the Son, honored the feast by offering Himself on the day of Passover 2) The feast of Unleavened bread • Similarly, we believers should also honor the feast of unleavened bread by living unleavened life (holy life) till He returns*** 3) The feast of Firstfruits • God the Father, honored the feast by raising Lord Jesus on the day of Firstfruits 4) The feast of Pentecost • God the Holy Spirit, honored the feast by descending on the day of Pentecost
