SALARY PLANNER’S OTHER USES Prepared for you by Julie Monfette, Human Resources Consultant SunGard Higher Education September 2010
Salary Planner’s Other Uses Introduction: This presentation is designed to stimulate ideas on other uses for Salary Planner...besides Salary Planning. 2
Salary Planner Basics Salary Planner is a Web application that allows authorized administrative personnel such as HR Managers, Department Heads, and Departmental Budget Managers to evaluate, plan, and create budgets for any fiscal year. 3
Salary Planner Basics Main features of the Salary Planner: • The ability to download as well as upload Position Budget and job salary data into Banner Human Resources by means of an Extract process and an Upload Process through Job Submission in Banner. 4
Salary Planner Basics • Provides a decentralized yet controlled method of distribution and access to Position Budget and job salary data to designated employees at various levels across the enterprise. 5
Resources • Employee Self Service, Salary Planner Handbook • It references Banner configuration and Self Service set-up. • Instructs how to use it. • Salary Planner Workbook • User Guide—HR, Reports and Processes 6
Set Up • NTRINST, PTRJCRE, NTVBPRO - NBAPBUD • Self Service • Uses NBAJOBS and NBAPBUD data
Access and Security • The Banner forms that process the extract and execute the upload, are controlled by the Security you establish for Oracle roles, on PTRUSER, and implementing HR Security. NTRSPEX - extract rule form NPBSPEX – extract process using job submission NBPSPUP- up load directly to NBAPBUD and initiate electronic path to upload to NBAJOBS
Oracle Security • NTRSPEX - extract rule form • NPBSPEX – extract process using job submission • NBPSPUP- up load directly to NBAPBUD and • initiate electronic path to upload to NBAJOBS 11
PTRUSER • Users with Query or None access in the User Code Rules Form (PTRUSER) can be given access to view or modify information for specific organizations in Salary Planner. • Grant the user • NONE (default) • Update • Query 12
Security • For access to data on the Web, after the extract, it uses the Web Tailor role to allow the view in Self Service. 14
HR Security • An enterprise can establish Banner security for the Salary Planner access at four levels by using PTRINST: 16
Organizational Security • Organization security in Salary Planner is based on the position organization defined on the Position Salary Budgets window in the Position Budget Form (NBAPBUD). 17
Special Salary Planner Security • Access to organizations (departments) can be established on the Salary Planner Security Form (NSASPSC). • NSASPSC overrides the security setup in PTRUSER for the specified organizations.
NSASPSC 20
Employee Class Security • Employee Class security – uses existing functionality of the Employee Class Security Form (PSAECLS) and the Installation Rules Form (PTRINST). • Employee Class security in Salary Planner is based on the position Employee Class defined on the Position Definition form (NBAPOSN). 21
Employer Security • Employer security - using the existing functionality of Employer Security Form (PSAEMPR), and • Installation Rules Form (PTRINST). 23
Salary Level • Salary Level security - by specifying in the User Code Rules Form (PTRUSER), and • Installation Rules Form (PTRINST). 25
PTRINST 27
Why push out the data? • First step to assigning accountability • Allows them to manage by tracking vacancies (If you have a vacancy management policy, this is essential. If you don’t, this is the first step to establishing one.) • Provide them information for completing “Request to Fill” or other Personnel Change Requests. • Allows view of data without allowing access to privileged Banner Screens. 28
So, what else? • Salary Planner is an excellent tool to push out data to Departmental Administrators and Budget Staff. • At minimum, you can share the position information, pooled and single filled, (NBAPOSN-PBUD) so they can be aware of the positions that are allocated to their department. 29
Full or limited access? • Baseline Salary Planner, within Employee Self Service, will display position information as well as job information. • If you are uncomfortable about allowing the job information to be displayed, ask your IT staff to alter the view. 30
Additional Label for NBAPBUD NTVBPRO 32
Other Reports/Views • Remember Baseline Banner has several reports and inquiry forms to allow views to your departmental budget staff… 33
Other Reports/Views Budget Work Sheet Report (NBRBWRK) • Compares a proposed fy budget to an established (either previous or current) fy budget. Position Status Exception Report (NBRPSTA) • Lists exception status positions (over budget, vacant, cancelled, frozen, under-encumbered, or over-filled)based on salary data only, fringe charge-back data only, or combined salary and fringe charge-back data 35
View in Luminis • Push out extract through your Luminis Portal: • When a new extract is available, add an email or alert on Luminis to indicate a new extract is available “Data as of…..” 36
