In order to gain a license, the aspirants have to go through an Exam conducted under Regulation 6 of the Customs Broker Licensing Regulations, 2018. In India, the license for a Customs Broker is issued for a period of 10 years, according to regulation 9 of the Customs Broker Licensing Regulations 2018. The Customs Broker must apply for renewal of the license one month prior to the date of expiration of the license.
The license of a Customs Broker is issued by the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs Department of Revenue. With this license in place, a Customs Broker is legally authorized to aid companies, Importers and Exporters in the process of Customs Clearance. There are amendments made in the examination and the authorities concerned with it at certain points of time, but the core agenda of the examination remains the same. It makes a Customs Broker a licensed one, which in turn opens up a plethora of opportunities for a Customs Broker to explore. It is not mandatory for companies to hire a Customs Broker to help them in Customs Clearance, but having a licensed Customs Broker always takes the load away from them.
