What the everglades is Reilly • The Everglades ecosystem is the only one of it’s kind in the united states. It is located in southern Florida between temperate and tropical zones makes it possible for many kinds of animals to live in it’s many different habitats. The large variety of animals that live there include invertebrates, both freshwater and saltwater fish, amphibians, reptiles, mammals, and birds. The damp climate is home to many plants that can’t be found anywhere else in the world. Much of the region is now included in Everglades National Park.
The water in the Everglades • It is also called the river of grass • The highest elevation in the Everglades is only about 10 feet above sea level • In the 1940s settlers drained and cleared parts of the Everglades for farming • Lake Okeechobee is its only water source • Saw grass grows in the water of the Everglades
