Closed Book and Open Book • Closed Book test. Why? To test that you have a command of vocabulary and key concepts. • Closed Book test is timed. You get the Open Book test once you turn it in. • Open Book test. Why? To test that you can apply the concepts. • You may use books and notes on the Open Book test. You may not use computers, phones, PDAs, or other people.
Sample Closed Book Question • 9 pts: Briefly describe 3 ways in which instruments like the MBTI and Orchid can be useful in the innovation process. • How would you approach this question?
More closed book examples • 10pts: One of the Creative-Connection Powertool is called breakdown the DNA. What does that mean and how would you implement? • 8 pts: What are 4 rules for effective brainstorming.
Sample Open Book Question • [Problem Description] • 25 pts: Refine the problem. Then identify and describe at least 4 component or sub-problems that it includes. • How would you approach this question?
Another Openbook • Describe the stakeholders in the problem of “under age drinking in schools” List at least 15 (reasonable) ideas for addressing the problem of “under age drinking in schools”
Things to Know About This Test • The test is designed to be difficult to finish in the time allotted. • The grades will be curved. • You will not be able to tell how well you have done on the test (unless you leave it all blank, of course) so don’t worry about it.
Test Taking Strategies • Read through the test • Answer the questions you know how to answer first • Break the rest up by points and answer the highest point questions first • Continue until time is up • Ask questions if something is not clear. The worst that can happen is we won’t answer your question.
