Server With out the discount per unit cost is $5226. And with discount it is $3826. Very little hard disk size compared to configuration in your email.
Possible configuration 1 • Use only half of the slots in a rack and put in only 10 units as there are only 2 ups per rack. And each ups takes 5 slots. • I did not check if it is ok to put in 3 ups’s in rack. • One can certainly add switches to external ups, but becomes messy again. • I have not included the cost of a network switch.
Possible configuration 1 Approximately $46360/unit With out the discount, is it ~$6300
Possible configuration 2 • Use all the slots in the rack and put in 20 server units and 4 ups per rack. And each ups takes 5 slots. Assuming it is possible to buy 4 ups with a rack (that option does not seem to be available online ). • I have not included the cost of a network switch.
Possible configuration 2 Approximately $4470/unit With out the discount, is it ~$6000
Conclusion • As the price difference between a 42u rack and 24u rack is only 100$, its better to opt for a 42 unit rack as it leaves us with an option of expansion.
