Z backscatter vans – inspections & findings Products or commodities involved : narcotics, cigarettes, tobacco, explosives, weapons, infringes of Customs laws and regulations in general. Type of allegation having an impact on the EU's financial interests : contraband, VAT and Customs & Excise duties evasion. Inspections at Container terminals & on public roads *Number of containers scanned: 2016: 2623/ 2017: 1970/ 2018: 5044 *Findings: 2016: stolen cars (6), 2017: cocaine (21669 kg), stolen cars (19), Excise (400 L alcohol & cigarettes) 2018 : cocaine (17361,33 kg), stolen cars (21), Excise (22000 L alcohol & cigarettes) Inspections on airplanes(onlywith Z Backscatter Van purchased in 2015/2016) – Locations: Oostend Airport & Brussels Airport: Number of inspections: 12 ; Findings: 3000 cigarettes – Modus operandi : After passengers and crew have left the airplane and the luggage has been removed, the airplane is entirely being scanned. The backscatter drives slowly along the airplane and the images are analyzed in real time. (video) The luggage is scanned separately by the scanvan before being placed on the conveyor belt.
