  2. Four Steps in developing your SV-4Step 1 – Identify the Product’s Timescale • Decide on the timescale this product is expected to represent (as-is, to-be, transitional) • Multiple timescales are often needed for each product; a separate SV-4 should be produced for each timescale that is needed

  3. Step 2 - Reference Existing Architecture Products • System Interface Description (SV-1) to identify applicable: • Systems • System nodes • System interfaces • Operational Information Exchange Matrix (OV-3) to identify applicable operational nodes • Activity Model (OV-5) to identify applicable activities

  4. Step 3 – Allocate Functional Activities • Determine the appropriate allocation of operational activities to operational nodes • Determine which systems or system functions (will) implement each operational activity • Determine and define the data flows associated with each system interface

  5. Step 4 - Illustrate Systems Functionality Description • Graphically depict the components of the system functionality • Two templates are provided, following this slide • First template is a data flow diagram showing systems and systems functions connected by arrows to depict the physical connections among them • Second template is a functional decomposition diagram showing functions depicted in a tree structure • A functional decomposition diagram is typically used where the functions are dependent on one another • You may use either or both depending on the nature of the various system functions
