Join us for a bilingual peer training program focused on building employment strategies through wellness networking. The project aims to address Latino representation in the mental health system and the importance of peer support in the Latino community. Participants will undergo a nine-month training program integrating materials tailored for Latino consumers, enhancing skills in mental health services and self-advocacy. Collaborations with BestNOW!, CLASP, and Boston University offer a comprehensive training structure with incentives for participants to develop state-of-the-art recovery and rehabilitation knowledge.

Important Facts • Latinos make up13.4% of the U.S. population, making Latinos the nation’s largest minority • This presents an increasing urgency for culturally sensitive mental health and rehabilitation services for the Latino population • Shortage of Latino providers to deliver such services • On average, 29 Latino mental health professionals for every 100,000 Information Courtesy of Boston University
Project Goals • To develop a culturally competent recovery and rehabilitation training program for Latino consumer providers. • To address Latino representation in the Mental Health system. • To gain an understanding of the importance of peer support in regards to the Latino community
Training Components Training program will focus on an integration of the following three materials, revised specifically to meet the needs of Latino consumers: • BestNow • CONTAC Leadership Academy • Boston University Recovery and Psychiatric Rehabilitation
BestNOW!Building Employment Strategies Through Networking On Wellness • Nine-month training program Five month in class training Four months paid community internship • Skills based knowledge of supportive services in mental health system • Enhance self-awareness, self advocacy, and empowerment • Peer support
CONTACLeadership Academy • Training program involving citizenship, advocacy, leadership, and organizational skills for consumers. • CONTAC completed a Spanish translation of the program, parts of which they will pilot in this project.
Boston University Recovery and Psychiatric Rehabilitation ·The training programs are of varying lengths and include content developed by BU project staff in current and previous grants. Course Outline BestNOW! • 3 days a week(12 weeks, in-class) • 3.5 hrs, mid afternoon Boston University • 4 day comprehensive Rehabilitation training component in Spanish Contac • 4 day intense leadership / Advocacy training Community Placement • 15-20 hrs weekly • 3 hr. weekly internship seminar
Program Incentives • To our knowledge, be the first consumer provider program specifically designed for Latinos • Will allow Latino consumers to develop both basic and more advanced skills • Provide consumers with a choice of roles to pursue: provider and/or leadership • Provide Latino consumers with specific state-of-the-art recovery and rehabilitation knowledge
