  3. COURSE OUTLINE Week 1: Orientation; General Overview of industrial design history. Interrelations between art, technology, society, culture, economics, and design. Bibliography and resources. Week 2: History of design in pre-industrial period. Characteristics of pre-industrial products and services Week 3: Illumination, Industrialization, Emergence of Middle Class Week 4: Introduction to Industrial Design history; Design in XVIIIth Century. Week 5: XIXth Century: Industrialization and International Exhibitions, Week 6: XIXth Century: Arts and Crafts Movement and William Morris. Week 7: Turn of the XXth Century, Modernism and Bauhaus Week 8: Design in Germany; AEG-Behrens, Braun-Rams Week 9: Midterm Week 10:Italian Design: Alesi – Pininfarina… Memphis… Week 11:Design in USA; Standardization, Styling, Loewy, Teague, Bell Geddes, Loos, Week 12:Design in Far East; Japan and China Week 12:Design in USSR Week 13: History of Industrial Design in Turkey I: XIXth Century and Industrialization Week 14: History of Industrial Design in Turkey II: Design since 1960 Week 15:Term Paper + TShirt submissions
