  4. מדדים קונבנציונאליים לאבחנה של אסטמה • שיטות אלו נמצאות בשימוש כבר הרבה שנים • מתמקדות בשינויים הפיזיולוגיים (ובתוצאותיהם) הקשורים לאסטמה • דורשים תפקודי ריאות (במעבדה או דרך מד נשיפה) • למרות שהטסטים מומלצים בכלההנחיות- בד"כ לא מבצעים אותם כי הם דורשים זמן ולעתים קרובות התוצאות אינן אמינות בעיקרכשהמחלה קלה. • התוצאות משתנות עם הזמן, הקורלציה עם סימפטומים היא מעטה, וסטיה מהתקין- פתולוגיה כמעט לא ניתנת לזיהוי במקרים קלים.
