Welcome! Purpose: Provide a forum for District Directors (DD) across the nation to meet “virtually”, share best practices, ask questions, and learn from one another.

District Directors in WA • Serve as a council representative of a designated geographical area within the state • Northwest, Southwest, and Eastern • Report directly to WA State Council Director • Responsible to WA State Membership & Area Chapter Presidents • Serve as a voting member of the State Council • Assist the State Council in the dissemination or development of information, providing timely and accurate response to proposals, surveys and questionnaires • Communicate with existing and future SHRM members (professional and student) to further the Society’s goals and objectives • Promote SHRM membership among practicing members of the human resource profession
District Directors in WA • Update State Council Director on a regular basis concerning chapter/member activities, accomplishments and opportunities within assigned district • Recommend program and/or policy changes to State Council as warranted • Develop and facilitates two-way communications between local SHRM chapters and State Council, maintaining continuous contact with assigned chapters • Quarterly voluntary best practice sharing conference calls • Attend chapter meetings and local board meetings as requested • Installation of Officers • Overview of State Council • Celebrations • Identify individuals who demonstrate effective leadership roles within district for potential leadership involvement on the council
District Director Initiatives • Provides direction, assistance and support of professional development activities within the state and SHRM • Works with chapter leaders to incorporate state and SHRM goals into local chapter activities • Promotes and encourages local chapter involvement in the SHRM professional and student chapter merit award programs • WSC Leadership Award: recognizes three chapter (one from each district) for participation in WSC activities and Chapter leadership excellence within their community 2013 Initiative: Workplace Flexibility Chapters educate their members about the benefits of workplace flexibility and the options available to employers. • Include the When Work Works website link on the chapter’s website • Educate chapter members (and community) at a chapter meeting about When Work Works and the Sloan Award • Publish an article/information about When Work Works in a chapter newsletter, on the chapter website • Start a discussion group on the chapters’ Facebook and/or LinkedIn page • Promote Workplace Flexibility Month in October (e.g. – partner with local media and chamber of commerce, acknowledge local employers which offer flexibility options at a chapter meeting/event)
2014 District Director Initiative • It’s all about MEMBERSHIP! • Partner with membership directors • Hold events in each district: • Opportunity to connect with current and At-Large members • Educate attendees on WSC and local chapter locations and initiatives • Offer training opportunities to Chapter Presidents and State Council on variety of membership related topics: • Engaging small business owners in SHRM membership discussion • Starting a Chapter Mentorship Program • Provide venues for best practice sharing: quarterly conference calls
