Who are we ? • The first education channel in Canada • Delivers distance education since 1984 • Operates a CRTC licence • Broadcasts in french (80%) and english (20%) • By cable and satellite throughout North America • A consortium of universities, colleges and broadcasting companies • A research consortium led by LICEF/CIRTA

  6. Goals of the project • Install a broadband network and an open portal for multimedia telelearning • Validate and showcase a solution to the design, delivery and management of audiovisual intensive telelearning applications

SavoirNet in short • A 3M$ 18 months R&D project • A specialized delivery LAN linked through RISQ with Canal Savoir members and distributors • Supported by the main broadband providers: Bell, Videotron, Star Choice, Look • An advanced portal based on LICEF’s Explor@ delivery system • A showcase for immersive telelearning systems integrating digital TV and broadband PC connexions
