Jeffrey Browen, O.D. gives us an introduction to orthokeratology. Also known as Ortho-K, this is a corrective vision procedure that does not require surgery. Instead, corrective lenses are worn only part of the day- or night, as most patients wear them while sleeping. Upon removal, they allow for highly improved vision without the use of contact lenses or glasses. Give the video a look, and learn how it works, and who's a good candidate for it.

Dr. Jeffrey Browen, O.D. Presents: Orthokeratology
so what is it? • AKA “Ortho-K” • A method of vision correction • Neither glasses nor contact lenses • Not surgery, like Lasik
Ortho-K deals with a special process • A patient is fitted with special lenses • Not dissimilar to contacts
How are they different and how do they work? • Unlike contacts, these are worn partially • Usually at night • Ortho-K lenses actively reshape the cornea
Removed upon waking • Allows the patient to see clearly throughout the day!
Many eye health companies offer it • Most popular is from Bausch and Lomb • However, the most integral part of the lenses is…
Why? • Gas permeability ensures sufficient levels of oxygen get to the eye. • Not enough oxygen? • Hypoxia may set in • But the more permeable the lens is… • … the less chance hypoxia can occur
CRT • Corneal Refractive Therapy • Similar to Ortho-K • Also uses corrective lenses worn in sleep • Developed by Paragon Vision Sciences
Who’s a good fit • Patient’s who aren’t good fits for surgery • Temporary fix • But it’s worn in the sleep, so it’s still glasses free!
