  3. AGREED PRIORITIES – WORLD CLASS STRATFORD

OBJECTIVES (1) • To ensure Stratford upon Avon provides an excellent quality of life and a healthy economic environment for its residents, businesses and visitors. • Centre of excellence for a range of functions, including education, culture, leisure and tourism. • Improving quality and variety of the visitor experience to world-class standards. • To be the most significant and rewarding place for experiencing Shakespeare’s legacy and genius.

OBJECTIVES (2) • Achieving World Heritage Site status • Improving the ways we conserve, interpret and present historical, architectural and landscape heritage • Strong sense of place and local distinctiveness in all new development • Adequate supply of affordable housing • Co-ordinating new developments and public spaces to create a distinctive whole, integrated with the existing fabric of the town

WORLD CLASS STRATFORD OBJECTIVES (3) • Suitable development that is sustainable, mixed-use, distinctive, high quality, attractive and reduces the need to travel. • Improving the public accessible areas and connectivity within Stratford in order to enhance the visitor experience and create an environment that will support business growth and job creation. • improving traffic movement in and around town, and creating an effective public transport interchange for the town.

  12. ECONOMIC WELLBEING • 2,378 households in receipt of means tested benefits (11.8% compared to 12.6% District-wide) • Unemployment rate of 2.0% in 2001 compared to 1.1% across the District as a whole (1.3% in 2006)

SOCIAL WELLBEING • 4 Wards in priority for improving health (Stratford Mount Pleasant; Stratford Avenue and New Town; Bidford; Salford;) • 11.6% Social Housing in 2001 compared to 12.4% across District • 2,500 recorded crimes (67.5 per 1,000 residents) in 2006/07 compared to District average of 63 – 2nd highest rate for an Area • 1,537 Anti-Social Behaviour incidents in 2006/7 (41.5 per 1,000 residents) compared to district average of 35.8 – 2nd highest rate for an Area
