Key Concerns: Network security – Schools and CLEO Virus Infection Data security Suitability of solutions for pupil access Staff access only Recommend curriculum use only – avoid all sensitive data files All servers & client PCs to have: Up to date anti-virus software Recently patched OS All client PCs to have personal firewalls Remote Access Pilot - Policy
School’s Role • To ensure that pilot project access policy is adhered to • To evaluate security implications and implement your school’s policy on levels of access for remote users of your school network • To evaluate the technical success of the pilot in your school • To complete evaluations of the impact on teaching and learning and/or management and administration and report back

Proposed Schedule • Tues 26th Oct – LUNS update access control lists on school routers to allow remote access • Fri 29th Oct – Schools’ IT staff complete server setup & test remote access – return remote users audit • Fri 5th Nov – ICT Co-ordinator to have remote access & completed tests • Fri 12th Nov – 2/3 school staff to have remote access & completed tests • Fri 19th Nov – Schools return progress report, results of tests and early evaluations to CLEO project office • Fri 26th Nov – All school staff to be involved in pilot set up with remote access
Support During Pilot • 1st line support for remote users – school IT staff • 1st line support for school technical staff – Westfield Centre or Jeff Haslam • Website/forums • Please record all faults from remote users and technical staff using Fault Reporting Procedure • Project Issues/Documentation – CLEO Project Office
Evaluation Schedule • Evaluation forms sent out prior to half-term • Wed 15th Dec – Pilot evaluation meeting with schools (Lancaster House Hotel) • End of Autumn term – Pilot Phase ends • Jan 2005 - CLEO schools remote access project group makes recommendations to CLEO Project Executive • Early Jan 2005 – Meet to begin pupil access trials
