  1. Towards higher spatial detail in European forests carbon budget- a component of the Carbo-Europe IP Gert-Jan Nabuurs, Bernhard Schlamadinger, Marcus Lindner, Michael kohl, Rainer Baritz, Gunther Seufert Introduction As part of the Integration component in the Carbo Europe IP, we concentrate on improving the spatial detail of the inventory based carbon budget of European forests. Earlier analyses often showed an NBP in the range of 70 – 100 Tg C y-1. However the spatial detail was limited to the national level or in some cases to the provincial level (fig 1). Methods & preliminary results A possible source for improvement may be in the sample wise forest inventories plots. In total some 420,000 inventory plots are measured annually. Through detailed questionnaires to all 38 national inventory institutes in Europe, we plan to acquire the detailed plot level data. For seven countries the data have been received by now (fig 2 & 3).
