Faculty Development Goals • broaden and expand pedagogically sound use of technology for teaching and learning beyond segment of “pioneers” • provide opportunities for faculty from all disciplines and at all technical skill levels • encourage faculty to share their knowledge and become mentors (snowball effect) • develop a sustainable model serving a large number of faculty with limited staff

General Strategy • bring support and advice “close to home” • combine technical and pedagogical advice • foster development of faculty’s own skills, encourage learning by doing • provide adequate hardware and software for office and home • provide reliable infrastructure (starting with Blackboard) • make sure help is always available (including evenings and weekends)

Organizational Challenges • spawning off Tech Thursdays • building departmental groups • including the branch campuses • attendance at Workshop Mondays • meeting demand as requests get more complex and more varied • increasing cooperation between the various support groups
Institutional Challenges • Rewarding Innovative Teaching • consideration for tenure & promotion • release time • stipends • Promoting Scholarship of Teaching with Technology • Setting up a comprehensive Teaching & Learning Center
