Romulus and Remus -Alba Longa is ruled by King Numitor -Numitor’s brother, Amulius, kicks him off the throne and declares himself king Ascanius (nicknamed Iulus) founds city of Alba Longa 300 years later in Alba Longa…
The evil Amulius is now king, but to ensure he keeps his crown, he forces Numitor’s daughter, Rhea Silva to become a Vestal Virgin. What is a Vestal Virgin? A priestess to the goddess of the hearth and home, Vesta. The main job of these maidens was to keep Vesta’s flame eternally lit.
Mars (god of war) and Rhea Silva ended up having twin sons… Romulus and Remus
Amulius orders servant to kill babies… Instead of directly killing the babies, the servant put the boys in a basket to float down the Tiber River…
Thankfully, the babies floated onto the shore and were greeted with help…
Finally, a shepherd, named Faustulus, found the boys and raised them as his own children. Romulus and Remus grew up to be strong, honorable shepherds in the fields outside Alba Longa.
Having learned about their grandfather, Numitor, the boys seek revenge for their family. Romulus and Remus kill Amulius and restore the kingdom to Numitor.
Romulus and Remus want to build their own city. The brothers do not agree on the location of their city. Romulus and Remus fight… Romulus kills Remus…
Romulus plans his own city named, Rome. Location: Palantine Hill King: Romulus Citizens: Convicts and criminals and Sabines Date city was founded: April 21, 753 B.C.
