  2. FORESTS ARE IN GOOD HANDS • They cover 44 percent of Europe‘s land area • And this area continue to expand • They grow around 770 million cubic metres per year • Only 2/3 of this increase is harvested

  3. FORESTS ARE IN GOOD HANDS • Over 60% of the forests in the EU are owned by families and individual landowners • There are about 16 million private forest owners in the EU • Among the forest owners there is an increasing number of women, pensioners and people living in cities

  4. FOREST-BASED INDUSTRIES • One of Europe´s largest industrial sectors • Employ more than 3 million people • Account for about 10% of Europe´s manufacturing industry • Are often located in remote rural areas contributing greatly to the local economy

FORESTS BENEFIT CITIZENS • Renewable source of material and energy, • A significant reserve of wildlife and biodiversity, • Forests provide natural products, such as game, berries, herbs, and mushrooms • Forests help to prevent flood, erosion, landslides, avalanches, and noise problems • Ideal for outdoor recreation and also filter against emissions
