Logistics of WCC’s Waste Audit • One student primarily organized this waste audit, Richard Bruno… one student CAN make a difference! • The trash was collected from Heiner, Laidlaw, Syre, Baker and outside receptacles west of Kellogg Rd., about 120 lbs. in total. • Collection for the audit was orchestrated to reflect the 24 hour period of April 21, 2010. Only what had been thrown in a garbage can was collected. • With the support of faculty offering extra-credit to students, there were over 50 student volunteers sorting trash (Thank you VERY much for your efforts!!) • In Total the event was a lot of FUN !! Students that participated left enlightened by their contribution! • Facilities/Operations gathered valuable information to help improve upon our campus Compost/Recycling program.
The garbage was sorted into categories: Compost, paper towels, bottles/cans, film plastic, mixed paper, landfill
In ‘08-09 WCC sent 77 tons of waste to the landfill. We have the potential on this campus to reduce our annual contribution to the landfill to 5.39 tons.
Reaching this potential will take YOUR help!!! Get INVOLVED!!
