Things to understand • Challenge “environmental friendly” statements • Look at “Life cycle” cost verse “First time” cost • Understand Greenwashing and look for 3rd party certifications • Look for low emitting products • Look for easy to clean with common products • Occupancy and operation are biggest cost • LEED certifies Buildings not product
Important Environmental steps • Use less energy • Conserve water resources • Emit fewer pollutants (such as greenhouse gases, airborne pollutants, liquid effluents, and/or solid waste) • Provide a healthier indoor environment for occupants • Bring in the daylight • Incorporate user controls where possible, air, lighting
