The main objects • Reduce the burden of data-reporting in the municipalities • Increase the quality of the data
Relevant data • Geo-referenced data that municipalities are obliged to report to Statistics Norway once a year • Examples • length of footpaths and bikeways established within urban agglomerations last year • different kinds of green areas • sewerage systems, pipes, .., length, age, types of material, .. • ---
Today’s problems • Un-standardized • data storage • data format • Some municipalities don’t have GIS • The municipalities officers in charge understand the questions different • ex. within/outside urban agglomerations • Impossible to know the quality of data
The ”ideal world” of data-catching • Standard formats • Open systems, platform independency • WFS – Web Feature Service (or Server) • The Web Feature Server (WFS) is an interface allowing requests for geographical features across the web being highly interoperable. It uses the XML-based GML for data exchange • The basic Web Feature Service allows querying and retrieval of features (http)
