Human Resource Management • Offered as part of the HRM major or minor • Excellent elective for students in behavioral and social sciences, education • Good class for students considering any career in organizations, especially ones involving leadership • Course content includes: • The role of HR in contemporary organizations • Overview of the major HR functions and activities • Understanding how to be your own HR manager
Student comments on the class (2009) • Course really took into account the future of students and plans they may have. Not the normal course with a boring lecture and forgettable test, it made students think about what they want to do with their lives. • Great mix of discussion, lecture, guest speakers, and other media. I never dreaded going to this class and the 2.5 hours flew by because he was so engaging. • It stimulated intellectual thought about the matter, helped prepare students for real job experiences • It was one of my favorite classes at BC. I used what I learned about in this class when choosing a job. • Thank you for a great semester in your class. I never anticipated it would involve so much self discovery
Student comments on the class (2009) • Class activities were pertinent to those majoring in HR and those who were not. • Human Resources is a practical class for students of any major because it provides basic knowledge of the field & involves so many different aspects of companies that are important for everyone to learn about. • It was a great class and a great Professor • I would definitely recommend this class to students, especially ones who don’t know what they want to do when they’re done with college. • One of my favorite classes at BC. • It was a fun class to be in with the professor. • Self-assessment exercises truly opened my eyes and allowed me to discover a new approach to the future.

Student comments on professor (2009) • Great teacher, made the class entertaining • He is enthusiastic about teaching and keeps the students involved. Even though it was 2.5 hours, it was never boring and he kept the students attention the whole time. • Instructor is very knowledgeable of the materials and very enthusiastic. He was always very approachable and available as well. • Professor Harrington is not only a great professor, but such a good guy. He is down to earth and really wants to see his students do well. • Professor Harrington has extensive business experience and is a tremendous teacher.

Has LOTS of experience that pertains to what he’s teaching, involves students in the classroom, know how to assess students effectively. • Has experience in subject material as well as a deep interest in it. • He was a wonderful professor. He always made time for his students regardless of his personal schedule. • Great, funny, engaging. Wonderful real-life experience and stories that help to illuminate the class materials.

Would you recommend this class to others? • Yes, great teacher, you can learn something very important. • Yes, 100%. You get a lot out of it and the classroom environment with Professor Harrington is friendly, energetic, and informative. • Yes, it was a great class and a great professor made his lectures interesting, interactive and very informative, He raised important issues that would be pertinent to any student in planning a future career. • Yes, great for any major. HR has been one of my favorite classes in college. • Yes,! I wasn’t sure about taking this class but so glad I did. • Absolutely, I would always recommend this course because it allows you to plan your future in a very creative way.
