  2. God Brought Faith to Hungary • Vajk- Szent István was crowned the first Christian king of Hungary on December 25, 1000. • Christianization of the pagans took several centuries and was brutal.

God Reformed Faith in Hungary • Nintey-Five Theses of Martin Luther posted on October 31, 1517. • Catholicism predominated the western part of the country (Hapsburgs) • Calvinism flourished in the Turkish occupied region in the center (90% of population became Reformed) • Unitarianism and eclectic reformers in the Transylvanian region (east).

God Continues to Reform Hungary • Lajos Csia (1887-1962): A modern reformer • Translated New Testament into Hungarian • Used “immersion” (“bemerítés”) for baptism • Tried to promote New Testament Christianity • Annamarie Krassnig (a member of the Vienna church) smuggled out of communist Hungary the Csia New Testament manuscript. • Eastern European Missions (Vienna, Austria) has distributed more than 15,000 Csia New Testaments in Hungary.
