This is a cross-border cooperation (CBC) multilateral initiative, funded by the EU under the European Neighbourhood Partnership Instrument (ENPI). INSERIREI MISURA 1.2 E IMPORTO ENPI CBC MED - EVALUATION PROCESS

  7. SUSTEXNET - GOAL With a duration of 2 years, SUSTEXNET will perform a detailed analysis of the current weaknesses of textile & clothing sector on both shores of the Mediterranean, establishing synergies among concerned actors to minimise the industry’s environmental impact and to maximise its quality and productivity.

  8. SUSTEXNET - RESULTS EXPECTED • Reduction of environmental impact • Increased competitiveness • Efficient use of energetic/hydrological resources • Waste reduction and revalorisation • Specialisation of production • Product and process innovation • Mobilisation of relevant stakeholders • Higher user awareness

  9. FFFFFKJDSKFJSNBKDJFNB SUSTEXNET - OUTCOMES • Country synopsis of the textile & apparel ecosystems & clusters • Engineering of a diagnostic tool • Creation of a GUIDE TO BEST PRACTICES • 16 DEMONSTRATIVE INTERVENTIONS in textile companies • 4 TRAINING sessions • Creation of an online tool with guidelines to reduce environmental impact

  10. FFFFFKJDSKFJSNBKDJFNB • HOW DO WE ACHIEVE THE GOAL • Multi level approach - the sector approach is abandoned and new concepts are introduced: industry ecosystem; cluster; key player. • Make it happen change - 16 pilot interventions. • Integrated approach - it covers innovation & creativity, environmental and economic aspects. SUSTEXNET – MAKING A DIFFERENCE

  11. SUSTEXNET - METHODOLOGY FFFFFKJDSKFJSNBKDJFNB To understand the current form of the textile & clothing industry, anticipate changes and devise the right policies, we will: Analyse the technical and economic linkages along the global value chain Describe the concrete shape of the industry at the territorial level Identify and understand the nature of the major actors involved in the industry.

  12. FFFFFKJDSKFJSNBKDJFNB METHODOLOGY (1) ECOSYSTEM Globalisation is breaking boundaries among industries and among nations and the traditional concept of “industrial sector” and “subsectors”, used so far for describing the industry, is now overcome. According to James F. Moore, instead of being rigidly grouped around a specific business or branch of manufacturing (spinning, weaving,…), ecosystems draw together mutually supportive companies from multiple industries that collectively seek to create differentiated offerings and capture value they could not reach alone. *Cross-industry ecosystems Growth outside the box, by Cedric Vatier in “Outlook _The journal of high-performance business” No. 1, 2013

  13. METHODOLOGY (2) CLUSTER • The ecosystem has both a global and a territorial dimension. When we have a geographic agglomeration of companies, suppliers, service providers, and associated institutions in a particular field, linked by externalities and complementarities we use the “cluster” concept. • This is particularly useful for: • Reflecting territorial and national specificities • Designing tailored regional policies.

  14. FFFFFKJDSKFJSNBKDJFNB METHODOLOGY (3) KEY PLAYERS • Ecosystems and clusters are influenced, shaped and leaded by recognizable major key players. Ex.: Global Companies which use advanced platforms and combine Design and Branding services with ICT & Logistics. • In order to have a clear vision of the ecosystem we must: • identify major key players • map their production process from the very beginning (raw materials) till the final market
