THE VELVET REVOLUTION IN CZECHOSLOVAKIA • a non-violent revolution from 17November to 29December 1989 • one of the most important of the 1989 revolutions • its symbol – jingling of the keys (meaning that new doors for the nation are being unlocked) • lead to the downfall of socialism in Czechoslovakia

MAINEVENTS OF THE VELVET REVOLUTION 17 November – police supress a peaceful student demonstration in Prague 27 November– a two-hour general strike 10 December– President Gustav Husák appoints a non-communist government (the first one since 1948) and resigns 28 December– Václav Havel is elected as the new president of Czechoslovakia
