  1. Ch 1.1: Lines in a Plane

  2. Slope = Formula: Slope = Example: Find the slope of a line that goes through (2, 8) and (-3, 5)

  3. Writing the equation of a line with 2 points • Find the slope with the 2 points • Use the slope and the 1st point given and plug it into the following equation • M = Slope, X1 = x-value, Y1 = y-value

  4. Example: Find the equation of a line through (5, 3) and (-10,0) • Find Slope • 2.Use Slope and 1st ordered pair • 3. Plug into formula

  5. Special Slope Relations • Parallel Lines: Same Slope!! • Perpendicular Lines: Slopes are Opposite Reciprocal • Example: • X = #: Slope = UNDEFINED • Y = #: Slope = 0

  6. Ex: Find the equation of a line Perpendicular to y= 3x + 2 and goes through (6, 3) • Perpendicular lines have Opposite Reciprocal Slopes!! 3 -> and (6,3) y = x + 3 - CLICK HERE FOR AN ONLINE GAME WITH LINEAR EQUATIONS
