Field Test of Gas Engines RR / Exxon • 5000 hrs of operation Anthony Veder LNG shipping, developing the market 04 November 2011
Field Test of Gas Engines RR / Exxon Conclusion • Piston cleanliness • Low amount of deposits on top land • Excellent cleanliness of ring lands, grooves and ring pack • Excellent piston under crown deposit formation control • Liner in excellent condition: • Minor discoloration • No signs of corrosion/bore polishing • Low wear on piston ring grooves, piston rings, liner, bearings • Good cleanliness of cold engine parts (crankcase, cambox,...) considering engine operational conditions • Stable natural oil consumption (54 liters/day) • Efficient oil purification is possible Anthony Veder LNG shipping, developing the market 04 November 2011
LNG Operations Operational experience • Engine control / interfaces are as simple as HFO • Gas consumption in line with engine specs • Time Between Overhaul is longer • Total Cost of Ownership is equal • For non gas operators • New building team requires special knowledge • Engineers need specialism • Safety precautions are VERY strict • Bunkering is a stand alone operation • Rules not yet defined for manning Anthony Veder LNG shipping, developing the market 04 November 2011
