Valuable Mathematics Teaching resources A Field Trip
National Council of Teachers of Mathematics (NCTM) • Mission Statement The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics is the public voice of mathematics education, supporting teachers to ensure equitable mathematics learning of the highest quality for all students through vision, leadership, professional development, and research • Vision Statement The National Council of Teachers of Mathematics is the global leader and foremost authority in mathematics education, ensuring that all students have access to the highest quality mathematics teaching and learning. We envision a world where everyone is enthused about mathematics, sees the value and beauty of mathematics, and is empowered by the opportunities mathematics affords.

Essential Understanding Series (NCTM) • The Essential Understanding Series addresses topics that are critical to student development but are often difficult to teach. Each book in the series (16 titles planned) gives an overview of the topic, highlights the differences between what teachers and students need to know, examines the big ideas and related essential understandings, reconsiders the ideas presented in light of connections with other mathematical ideas, and includes questions for readers’ reflection.
Focus in High school mathematics series (NCTM) • Refocus the way you teach high school mathematics with the Focus in High School Mathematics series. Shift your perspective from delivering information to facilitating students' sense making about mathematics. Learn what constitutes reasoning and sense making, why they should be considered a foundation for school mathematics, and how they link to other processes. See examples of how you can incorporate reasoning and sense making into your classroom and across the program.
Navigations Series (NCTM) • The Navigations series focuses on topics that emphasize the importance of incorporating the Principles and Standards into your mathematics curriculum. Activities, lessons, worksheets, and a CD-ROM with additional resources are included with each book.
NCTM Illuminations • 108 online activities, 607 lesson plans, standards and web links
Illustrative Mathematics Project • The Illustrative Mathematics Project uses high quality, rigorously reviewed tasks from teacher leaders across the nation to illustrate each of the Common Core State standards for Mathematics.
Mathematics Assessment Project (MAP) • MAP is a collaboration between the University of California at Berkeley and the Shell Centre at the University of Nottingham with support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, offers formative assessment lessons and summative tasks to support implementation of the CCSSM.
Inside Mathematics • A professional resource for educators passionate about improving students' mathematics learning and performance. This site features classroom examples of innovative teaching methods and insights into student learning, tools for mathematics instruction that teachers can use immediately, and video tours of the ideas and materials on the site.
Assessment Links (samples) • Partnership of Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) • Smarter Balance Assessment Consortium
The Mathematics COMMON CORE TOOLBOX • Resources for Implementation This site offers examples of the types of innovative assessment tasks that reflect the direction of the PARCC summative assessments.
