  4. CareMaps Promote Standardized Care • Provide framework for treatment • Outcomes for patients treated by guidelines are generally superiour to the outcomes of those who aren’t AMSB

Variance Data Help Drive Quality • Any deviation from the standard of care that may influence the quality of care must be collected • Address causes • May help identify effectiveness of treatment • Retrospective analysis of variance data determines if there are any trends or patterns that require improvement efforts AMSB

  6. Dealing with Resistance to CareMaps • Change is frequently met with resistance • Meaningless paperwork, cookie cutter medicine • However, evidence-based medicine will lead to the best results • Nurses tend to be less reluctant • Training programs • Train the trainer AMSB
