Proposed Requirements for TGai SFD to Support FILS with Legacy STAs • Date:2012-03-06 Authors: Chao-Chun Wang, James Yee, MediaTek
Abstract • The draft specification shall assure that the modifications in the protocol will also benefit the operation of legacy STAs • The draft specification shall support a mode that reduces AP discovery latency via changes in AP protocol behavior only Chao-Chun Wang, James Yee, MediaTek
More Legacy STAs than 11ai STAs in a Hot Spot Network • In a realistic environment, legacy STA will be present in large numbers, and their link setup latency needs to be improved as well. • Otherwise, they will also compete with 11ai STAs for link setup through less efficient channel access. • Furthermore, if TGai gives preferential treatment to 11ai STAs at the expense of legacy STAs, transition to 11ai will be slow because deployment can not be incremental. Proposed Text for SFD • Motion 1 • Insert the following text in section 5, Fast Network Discovery • R.xx: The draft specification shall assure that the protocol can also reduce Network Discovery latency of legacy STAs. • Motion 2 • Insert the following text in section 5.1, AP Discovery • R.yy: The draft specification shall define a mandatory mode that reduces AP discovery latency via changes in AP protocol behavior only Chao-Chun Wang, James Yee, MediaTek
Straw poll from 2012/01 Jacksonville meeting 11-11/1628r4 • Straw Poll 1: Do you support to add the following into section 5 “Fast Network Discovery” of the TGai spec framework document: • Insert in 5.x AP Discovery. AP may support a mechanism which reduces AP discovery latency via changes in AP protocol behavior. • Y/N/A: 7/7/11 Chao-Chun Wang, James Yee, MediaTek
