Characteristics of students To be included in this study of participation in ARTSMART I, students: • maintained enrollment in either the same experimental or control school for three consecutive years • had a complete data set • did not change SES status • were not identified as special education
Identification of SES • Students who qualified for free/reduced lunch were aggregated as Low SES Experimental Site 1: 24.5% Low SES Experimental Site 2: 50.0% Low SES Control Site 1: 40.4% Low SES Control Site 2: 28.1% Low SES
TerraNova Achievement Test • National Percentiles tracked over three consecutive years for Total Performance in Reading, Language Arts, Mathematics 0-49th percentile = No Mastery 50-74th percentile = Partial Mastery 75th percentile and above = Mastery
TerraNova and PSSA • Correlational studies reveal a highly significant relationship between TerraNova and PSSA performance • Test banks have been shared between TerraNova and PSSA
