Getting Started… • The goal was to raise the awareness of quality and patient safety issues in health care • We organized few meetings and presentations • Our chapter received a SEED grant from NCSU to spearhead the internship program for students interested in health care improvement
Activity • Here is what we have done to expand the knowledge of members and tackle improvements in health care: • Run summer internship programs • Reduced discharged time for minor patients from 82 to 45min • Engaged physicians, nurses, technicians to make improvements

Community Integration • We developed a relationship with the following local health care organizations • Rex Healthcare • North Carolina Hospital Association • North Carolina Office of Rural Health and Community Care • Rex healthcare and UNC Radiation-Oncology sponsors summer internships • We plan to expand our internship program by working closer with NC Hospital Association and NC office of rural health. • We plan to further spread and integrate via certification program provided by Industrial Extension Service at NCSU.
Challenges • No medical school • No nursing school • No campus hospital • Little collaboration between departments • Incentives for students (certifications)
