What is LAHBA? TheLatin American and Hispanic Business Association - LAHBA –is one of the largest student-run associations of the Haas School of Business. LAHBAunites students from all backgrounds who share an interest in Latin America, organizing and sponsoring activities to heighten the cultural, economic, and political awareness of the region in the MBA and the UC Berkeley campus. LAHBA also facilitates international career searches by helping members learn about business opportunities in Latin American countries and supporting academic and professional networking with other Latin American & Hispanic associations.
Who is LAHBA? Every academic year LAHBAgroups approximately 100 students with a wide variety of interests and a multi-disciplinary background from different countries of Latin America and the rest of the world.
The Conference TheLatin American Business Conference is LAHBA’s most important event, contributing to fulfill its vision of becoming a key organization in the Berkeley MBA. It is the opportunity to increase the relevance of Latin American business issues among students and the larger MBA community in the United States. Held annually at Haas since 2010 the Conference is a full-day event focused on Latin America, featuring highly-respected business and political leaders who share their experiences and insights. It is a space for learning, sharing and debating about current trends and business opportunities all around Latin America, addressing diverse topics of interest. The IV Latin American Business Conference will take place on April 5, 2013 at the Haas School of Business, in Berkeley, California.

IV Latin American Conference Our keynote speakers: Carlos Orellana Co-founder and General Director of SalaUno. MBA and MPH from UC Berkeley, Carlos worked in consulting and investment banking for six years before founding SalaUno, an ophthalmology clinic based in Mexico that offers affordable and high quality eye care services, focused on low and mid income segments. Carlos and co-founder of SalaUno, Javier Okhuysen were named “Entrepreneurs of the year” in 2012 in Mexico for their work in SalaUno. Daniel Vargas Daniel is a doctoral (S.J.D.) candidate at Harvard Law School. Daniel holds a J.D. and an LL.M. from the University of Brasilia and an LL.M. from Harvard Law School. While at Harvard, he has been a teaching fellow for courses in politics and development. Daniel has served in various positions in the Brazilian Government, including Chief of Staff, Secretary of Sustainable Development and Executive Secretary of the Secretariat of Strategic Affairs. Before starting his doctoral studies, Daniel was the interim Minister of Strategic Affairs of Brazil. Marcelo Vasquez Principal at Canvas Group. Marcelo has over fifteen years of international experience in business technology, as an entrepreneur and executive. Currently he is working with Chilean entrepreneurs developing media related ventures, helping them with financing and business model design. Marcelo has held executive positions at Canal 13, one of the leading media conglomerates in Chile, Fundación Chile, the country's premier technology transfer and business incubation center and Siebel Systems in the US.
