NARWHALLevels of Organization Rodrigo Bello, Amber Roberts, Peaches Herrera, Elaine Mendoza, Daniel Acevedo.
Biome! • The Artic Ocean • Icy cold waters in the Arctic Seas above Europe, Asia, and parts of Canada.
Community! • The primary food of the Narwhal is Bottom-Feeding fish. Those fish can eat either smaller fish, or Plankton. The smaller fish can eat worm like animals. Those small, worm-like, animals depend on eating Zoo Plankton and Phyto Plankton. • When Narwhal’s go hunting for food, they go in groups to avoid attacks from any predators.
Community Goes On • Narwhals are a migratoy species. In summer months, they move closer to coasts, usually in pods of 10-100. As the winter freeze begins, they move away from shore, and reside in densely packed ice, surviving in leads and small holes in the ice. As spring comes, these leads open up into channels and the narwhals return to the coastal bays.
Population! • The exact population of Narwhals cannot be found, but the estimated amount is 75000 Narwhal’s. • For the Narwhal’s population to not fade away, they must reproduce and know certain skills of survival.
Population Continues • Narwhals mate, belly to belly, in the deeper waters of the winter migration. Mating tends to take place between March and May of one year. Birthing of live young tends to take place some 14-15 months later, between July and August of the next year, in the shallower waters of the summer migration.
Organ! • The narwhal is a noisy creature, with a range of clicks, squeals, trills, and whistles • Male narwhals can reach a length of 5 meters and weigh up to 3,500 pounds. Females are somewhat smaller, reaching a length of 4 meters and weigh up to 2,200 . • Narwhals reach sexual maturity between 6-9 years.
Organ System! • Nervous System of the Narwhal. • The system of cells, tissues, and organs that controls the body's responses. In vertebrates it includes the brain, spinal cord, nerves, ganglia, and parts of the receptor and effector organs.
Organelles! • Atoms: is a basic unit of matter that consist of a dense central nucleus • Nucleus is surrounded by a cloud of negative charged electrons • Inside the nucleus is the nucleolus is were the DNA and RNA are stored
Tissue! • The tusk is not made up of tissue • But it is made of hard proteins and ivory- which is used to make pottery and jewelry • Females tend to have smaller tusk, a variable that affects the growth of the tusk is pregnancy witch takes calcium from the female
