The statistics relating to Dementia show what a wide spread and pernicious disease it is. • There are currently 800,000 people with dementia in the UK. • There are over 17,000 younger people with dementia in the UK. • There are over 25,000 people with dementia from black and minority ethnic groups in the UK. • There will be over a million people with dementia by 2021.
The statistics relating to Dementia show what a wide spread and pernicious disease it is • Two thirds of people with dementia are women. • The proportion of people with dementia doubles for every 5 year age group. • Two thirds of of people over 95 do not have dementia • Two thirds of people with dementia live in the community
4 Key Objectives of the Adult Social Care Strategy • Prevention • Early Intervention • Creative Support Planning • Zero Tolerance of Abuse
Prevention • Joint working with NHS to improve sign posting and support for those newly diagnosed • Commitment to reducing social isolation of suffers and their carers • The development of a dementia strategy in line with the principles of dementia friendly communities • Increasing use of Assistive Technology
Early Intervention • Dementia Café which will open in December • Kingsbury Resource Centre • Enhanced Reablement service with additional therapy support • Provides a package for up to 6 weeks/72 hours plus potentially 6-12 hours of OT and Physio therapeutic intervention where appropriate
Creative Support Planning • Approved Mental Health Practitioners embedded in Older Peoples Team • Increasing the number of Admiral Nurses from 2 to 6 with the NHS • A more proactive approach by GPs supported by social workers specialising in supporting older people.
Safeguarding • A dedicated multi disciplinary safeguarding team • A new team specialising in monitoring residential care placements • An increased focus on community based support.
