Accessibility at CTEP Member Sites

  1. Accessibility at CTEP Member Sites Brock Hefel, Norma Saavedra, Matthew Bruess, Bowen Prince

  2. Background: • Based on a perceived need in the community. • Aligns well with CTEP mission. • Main goals of the project: • Figure out if other sites were having similar struggles. • Educate our cohort on the assistive technology that is available. • Implement change.

Key stages of the Project: Survey: • Asked comprehensive questions regarding accessibility needs at CTEP sites. • 27 of the cohort answered the survey PACER Training: • Facilitated a training with the PACER Center during our April 19th Corps day. • Became more familiar with Assistive Technology Accessibility Kit and resources: • Recommendations of what each site should have at their site. • Compiling a list of resources for current and future CTEP.

Pacer Training: • Organized a training with the PACER Center on assistive tech and what the center does • Highlights: • Shown different assistive technologies (alt keyboards, adapted mice, etc.) • Free google chrome plugins • Learned more about a great organization that could certainly act as a resource for participants who have a need!

  8. Accessibility Kit: • Physical: • 1x Large Font Keyboard • 1x Trackball Mouse • 1x Magnifying Glass • 1x Magnifying Sheet • 1x Resource Pamphlet from Pacer about their lending library Virtual: 1x Text to speech software 1x Word prediction software 1x Reading software

  9. Recommendation to CTEP and Sites • For CTEP: • Plan accessibility training early in the service year • For Sites: • Sites inventory assistive tech • Identify funding to acquire tech • Ensure CTEP members are trained in using tech
