  3. Is this a picture of an old woman or a young woman? The Claim “This is a picture of both an old woman and a young woman, depending on how you look at it.”

  4. The CCEJ: a strong paragraph • 1-2 sentences that follow your claim • Define terms reader might not know • If your grandma wouldn’t know it, define it What does a strong paragraph look like in high school? Clarification

  5. Is this a picture of an old woman or a young woman? The Clarification “The young woman can be seen looking away from the viewer, while the old woman is looking down towards the ground.”

The Evidence “You can see the young woman if you imagine she has her head turned, showing only one eyelash, part of her nose, one ear, and a necklace. You can see the old woman if you imagine she has her chin in her coat, with a large crooked nose, one eye visible, and her lips are the young woman’s necklace.”
